HS Track & Field 3-25-10

Cool, overcast days and a black rubber track make for a great afternoon of shooting track & field. A brief glimpse of some late afternoon sunshine was just icing on the cake.

  1. Good stuff. 6 is perfect. I can never position myself correctly to get the shot i want on the high jump! 9 is perfect too. Are you laying on the ground for 22/23?

And, being picky.....i wish there was a little more detail in the sky in 26. I know you said it was an overcast day though...that why i said i'm being picky. :)

  2. -Thanks man! I wish the background was a little cleaner in 6 (ie no fence).
-For 9 I was sitting right at the edge of the sand pit. I usually like to shoot long jump with a long lens to clean up the backgrounds, but there wasn't enough room here. Luckily getting down low enough still cleaned it up nicely.
-For 22/23 yes, I was laying directly on the ground. These shots would have been nearly impossible on a warm sunny day due to the heat waves that would radiate off the track, so I took full advantage while I could!
-Regarding 26, I see your point, but the more I look at it the more I like the simpleness and isolation of the grey background. It makes the colors pop. A sky like 25 would have been nice, but I thought the subject would get lost in the pattern of the clouds, and probably would have to be a silhouette in order to preserve the sky detail. Either way, what is really crazy is that 25 and 26 were shot just over an hour apart. Crazy spring weather!!

  3. That is crazy about the weather. It almost makes it look like different days.

I hear what you're saying about 26. I went back and forth, and that's why i said i was being too picky. Haha. I like the simpleness of it, but i guess i would LIKE to see what it would have looked like with a sky like 25.
