Franklin & Marshall Football 11-05-10

Although the team didn't fare as well as last week, and the light was just a 'little' more harsh, I'd still be hard pressed to find a better place to spend a crisp fall afternoon than the sidelines of F&M...

Franklin & Marshall Football 10-30-10

It felt great to shoot football at something other than 10,000iso under old, dark, cycling HS stadium lights for a change. What a beautiful day to spend roaming the sidelines.

Friday Night (pre) lights...

As the realization that summer vacation has finally come to an end, the sweet salvation of football season fortunately comes to the rescue. The fabled "Friday Night Lights" have arrived once again. Unfortunately, the "Friday Night Lights" in most HS stadiums I cover leave a LOT to be desired. Fortunately, for the next month at least, the beauty of the late summer "golden hour" light still shines on. Here are images from my first two days of HS football, captured in the beauty that is (pre)Friday Night Lights.

Todd & Lisa's Wedding 9-05-10

For the first time in my life, rather than being the wedding photographer, I was actually part of the wedding. It's hard to say with any certainty which side I prefer, but the non-photographic side is definitely much less stressful! In any event, it was a beautiful event, and I was proud to be a groomsmen for one of my good friends. However, not being much of a dancer, I inevitably fell back upon doing what I know best... taking pictures.

RD & Jenn's Wedding 08-07-10

I traveled deep into the mountains of Elkins, WV a few weeks back to shoot a wedding. What an amazing weekend it turned out to be. Good friends + good weather + good location + good beer + good music + Great Couple = DAMN GOOD TIMES!

Franklin & Marshall Womens Lax Weekend

I covered Women's Lax for Franklin & Marshall this weekend. They absolutely dominated both games, winning 16-4 Saturday and 16-3 on Sunday. My own performance was decidedly less stellar. Between the radiating heat waves wreaking havoc with the autofocus, and a terrible case of "ref-butt," I just couldn't seem to find my rhythm. Ultimately, I still managed to make a few decent images, but redemption shall be mine next weekend at the lax finals at Gettysburg College. I'll also be praying for cloudy skies...

After Prom Party 5-08-10

After shooting the actual prom, I headed out to Arundel Mills Mall to cover the after-prom party being held at Dave & Busters. I only shot for about 45 minutes, as 2am was fast approaching, and I had a busy Sunday ahead of me the next morning. Under different circumstances, I do wish I could have stayed a bit longer and worked the scene a bit more. Nevertheless, it was definitely a unique opportunity in a very cool location. Everything was shot with either a 35mm 1.8 or a 50mm 1.8 wide open @ 6400iso.

Boys Lax 4-13-10

Spent a drizzly afternoon in Delaware shooting boys lax. Days like this are made for AquaTech lens covers and EMS jackets! I stayed warm, my equipment stayed dry, and I managed to make a few nice frames...

The Recipe for Shooting Spring Sports...

Take 3 parts Lax games, roughly one half each. Next, add one part softball game, about two innings worth. Stir repeatedly from 4:00 to 7:30pm. Serve chilled with 30mph wind gusts, and VOILA!

Girls Soccer 04-05-10

I always enjoy shooting sports at this particular school for several reasons: 1) They don't
have auxiliary lights, so BOTH the JV & Varsity games are played in the gorgeous afternoon light, 2) Varsity always plays first, and 3) the stadium is reserved for football games, so the rest of the sports are played in huge fields that all have beautiful clean backgrounds! With temperatures in the mid-70's, I can't think of a better way to have spent a sunny April afternoon...

First Lax of the Season...

...unfortunately this was a "burn cd on the spot job" and I had three games to shoot, all at roughly the same time. Regardless, it felt great to be back out in the sun, and it felt even better to wipe the dust off of my beloved 400mm! What wasn't nearly as satisfying was that I only had roughly 25 minutes to shoot the JV game, and about 35 minutes to shoot the V game before I had to head back to my car to start burning the cd. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful afternoon, and despite the 3 1/2 hours of traffic getting there, a JV baseball game in between, and both teams losing to the tune of around 12-0, I still managed to make a few decent images. Enjoy...

2010 MD Boys Basketball State Finals 3-13-10

8 teams, 4 games, ten hours... one court. One very, very dark court. Comcast center, I swear you get darker every year. For shame UMCP, FOR SHAME!! Even though it was a long day of shooting, and I was living the life at 5000iso, I still had a great time, got to see a few familiar faces, and managed to make some decent images. Enjoy...

Franklin & Marshall Mens Basketball 2-28-10

I covered the Centennial Conference Championships between Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg tonight. F&M went into half-time with a comfortable lead, but Gettysburg came out strong in the 2nd half, closing the gap and eventually pulling ahead in the 4th quarter. F&M answered back with a strong run and a couple of key free-throws to secure the win 66-62. Great game!

Swimming Championships at Franklin & Marshall 2-20/21-10

I photographed the college swimming championships at Franklin & Marshall last weekend. Saturday I was a one-man show, and on Sunday Sinclair and I were both there, shutters blazing! With 3 main schools to cover, but the additional need to cover as many other participants as possible, this was much more of a "higher quantity" over "absolute quality" assignment than usual. Nevertheless, there was plenty of good action, and a few nice moments that I was fortunate enough to capture.

Blizzard of '10...

Two blizzards brought high winds, power outages, and nearly 4ft of snow to most of the east coast.... and all in less than a week! Many are calling it a once in a lifetime experience. Let's hope they're right!

Here a glimpse at what I saw during the great "Snowpocalypse" of 2010.

Photographed HS wrestling for the 2nd time this season. Lit directly with 2 speedlights superclamped to the far railings on my left and right. Not overly excited with the results...especially the shadows, but it'll do for now...
